Chattanooga, Tenn. – Hamilton County Schools, in partnership with the Hamilton County Mayor’s Office, released the first renderings and renovation plans for updates to Soddy Daisy Middle School.
“This project is a major investment in our students, educators, and the future of Soddy Daisy,” said Dr. Justin Robertson, HCS Superintendent. “I’m excited to continue moving forward with facilities projects that reflect our belief in the success of our schools and communities. When we create innovative spaces that foster creativity and learning, our students and staff can thrive in environments that support their growth, connection, and readiness for the future.”
The project, estimated at $34 million, will be funded through the Hamilton County Commission’s facilities bond and is scheduled to begin construction in October 2026. Plans include updated and modernized classrooms and learning spaces, a new gymnasium, and upgrades to the existing cafeteria. Once completed, the school will accommodate up to 650 students to address current capacity needs and projected community growth.
“Strong schools are the backbone of strong communities,” said Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp. “The county’s investment in Soddy Daisy Middle School will strengthen the K–12 experience in North Hamilton County and pay dividends for decades to come.”
The construction will be phased to minimize disruption and is not expected to impact daily school operations. Project completion is anticipated in fall 2029.
“Soddy-Daisy has always taken pride in its schools, and this project reflects what the community asked for,” said District 1 Commissioner Gene-O Shipley.
“These renovations will give our students the updated spaces they deserve while keeping the school rooted in the neighborhood that supports it. I am grateful for the families, teachers, and leaders who helped guide this decision for the future of Soddy-Daisy.”
Initial plans presented in August 2023 called for a new Soddy Daisy Middle School to be built on a shared campus with Daisy Elementary and Soddy Daisy High School. However, after listening sessions and community feedback, the Hamilton County Board of Education voted on November 21, 2024, to pursue renovations to the existing building, reflecting the values and voices of the Soddy Daisy community.
“This project reflects the voice of our community, and I’m proud of the Board for listening, responding, and making decisions that support Soddy Daisy,” said Steve Slater, Hamilton County Board of Education District 1 Representative. “Our students and teachers deserve a building they can be proud of, and that meets the needs of teachers to best serve our students in a modernizing world. I look forward to seeing the continued excellence of Soddy Daisy Middle School.”
This unveiling of renderings for Soddy Daisy Middle is the latest update in the ongoing facilities upgrades funded by the Hamilton County Commission Facilities Bond.
